Esclavitud de los indígenas guaraníes en el Chaco boliviano

Por la noche los guaraníes hablan con la naturaleza. Apoyados en los troncos que sostienen sus chozas oyen el eco nocturno del Chaco y contestan con sonidos de onomatopeya: guyra llaman al pájaro, mboi nombran a la víbora. La noche fresca es para ellos y sus sueños; el vaho húmedo y ardiente del día es para el trabajo. Desde las cinco de la mañana, los guaraníes abandonan sus camas —a veces de palo, otras de hierro— instaladas en el patio de sus chozas y que sirven para toda la familia. Despiertos, arrían a las adormiladas vacas petrificadas sobre el granito rojo del camino. Los chivos y los cerdos comen todo lo que imprime color: ramas bajas de tajibos, churquis, sotos y algarrobos, y los niños, que bordean las quebradas para encaminarlos, se alegran estirándoles las colas. Hugo Chavez Frias gained an Ecuadoran ally last November when voters rejected Washington’s choice and the country’s richest man and elected Raphael Correa its President by an impressive margin. Correa is a populist economist and self-styled “humanist, leftist Christian” promising big changes for another Latin American country long ruled by and for the elite and against the interests of ordinary people Ecuador abounds in whose voices finally spoke and prevailed. Dam Development: Murder, Repression and Environmental Destruction in Honduras

The debate over the viability of the Patuca Hydroelectric Dam and the present administration’s plans to go ahead with its construction has finally brought the mega-project to the attention of the Honduran public.The government’s plans override public interest and fail to consider the serious environmental consequences for the Miskitos and Tawacas who live on the costal wetlands and in the lower and central parts of the Patuca region.
